Conscious about the challenges that a global world imposes to our country, Puerto de Coronel is developing, several years since, a strong compromise with its community education. Therefore, the following programs are being implemented:

“Educando en la Comuna de Coronel” Program

This initiative, which started in 2006 and finished in December, last year, was possible thanks to the Puerto de Coronel and Ewos Chile S.A. sponsorship, and benefited 6 public schools of Coronel. It is important to mention that around 1.500 children attend to these schools and the great majority of them are from the poorer families of Coronel.

This program is mainly pointed to reinforce writing, reading comprehension, development of logical thinking – mathematical, school management and teacher training, pupils’ self-esteem and the importance of the family in education.

Its application is compatible with the Ministry of Education programs, and is considered a complement of them. The only objective of said programs is to improve education’s quality, taking in account the community’s characteristics and needs.

Puerto de Coronel cared about the success of this program, continuously getting involved in this project management through the “Directorios”, that worked in every of these schools and were presided by one executive of the port for each one of them.

The following are the 6 schools benefited by the program:

Escuela Ramón Freire Serrano (F-674)

Puerto Educativo Puerto de Coronel is also worried about the creation of backup instances to curricular and extracurricular activities such as support in academic works, the website “Puerto Educativo”, support in the different activities of the “Mes del Mar”, amongst others.

Centro de Prácticas

The company has implemented “Centro de Prácticas”, in which students can realize their internship in diverse areas related to port tasks.

Contribution to School Infrastructure

Another aspect, important to mention, is the contribution to school infrastructure improvement and to introduce new technologies, which joined to the compromise in education, has been critical in the process of renewal of the pedagogical practices and the motivation of learning processes in the community’s schools.

Although the incorporation of these new technologies and learning methods, are neither the solution nor the definitive answer to the challenges that education faces nowadays, at least it will allow the students of the benefited schools of Coronel be better prepared and have the same opportunities than the students of the rest of the countries.
